Introduction

The GENESIS SoftFocus ISAM driver uses low-level SoftFocus ISAM calls to provide very high performance with SQL access.

Included with the driver is a GENESIS dictionary maintenance utility. GENESIS relies upon four dictionary tables to keep track of the SoftFocus ISAM file layouts, including keys. The utility initializes the GENESIS dictionary.

To run the utility:

1. Create a GENESIS data source file.

In $GENESIS_HOME, create a file with

<dictsource> /usr2/genesis/softfocus
<datasource> ;/usr2/genesis/softfocus;

where <dictsource> is a directory in which the GENESIS dictionary will be created and <datasource> is a list of directories to search for SoftFocus ISAM files.

2. Create and load the GENESIS dictionary fr.

Assuming that the file in step 1 is called mysfisam,

gds7init mysfisam

This creates the GENESIS dictionary.

You are now ready to create new tables and run SQL queries and updates against them! You need only decide which Trifox client product to use.
