VORTEX on Linux
-
Is it possible to have the VORTEXserver running on Linux,
have it access an MS SQL Server and connect to the Linux using JDBC?
-
Yes.

What databases run on Linux?
-
SoftwareAG's ADABAS, DB2, and Oracle all run on Linux. You can get
details on how to get a free copy of ADABAS D Personal Edition for
Linux at SoftwareAG's site.

I want to use my Linux machine as a c and/or jdbc client to access an
Oracle database on my Solaris 2.5 or HP/UX 9.0/10.20. I guess I need
software on my server, because SQL*Net is not supported on Linux. If so,
is this piece delivered as source code ? Is the Oracle version important?
-
You need VORTEXc for Linux, VORTEXserver for Solaris, and VORTEXjdbc. We
support all versions of Oracle 6, 7, and 8; the only problem you may
encounter is linking to the Oracle 7.2 OCI. If you do have problems, you
must build cdemo1.c in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/demo and use the libraries
referenced there.
